Coming from us East Coaster's finding a Place in Austin may be a hard task. All we really know is - South by Southwest which was featured in the Real World. Mr. Pants seems to know his way around town so if you are ever there give these restaurants a chance.

Polvo's (South First): Espaditas are like chalupas, but far superior. Try the fish espaditas. Fish tacos aren't always listed on the menu, but they are usually available. Everything on the breakfast menu is tasty. Get a side of fried plantains. Margaritas and bloody marys are excellent. Remember the roasted green salsa? This is where it came from.

Trudy's (many locations): One of my favorite versions of migas. Try the Mexican eggs benedict made with migas. Excellent fajitas.

Maria's Taco Xpress (South Lamar): Outstanding breakfast tacos. Great salsa. A wonderfully funky South Austin experience.

Magnolia Café (South Congress): Open 24 hours. Fantastic pancakes (try the gingerbread!) and other comfort food. The chicken enchiladas with queso are great. Lots of vegetarian options.

Hut's (Downtown): A hamburger joint that's been around forever.

Waterloo Ice House (South Lamar and …Fifth? Sixth?): Great cheeseburgers and fries. Try the Tejas Philly (made with queso and grilled poblanos). Conveniently located next to Waterloo Records.

Jo's (South Congress): Associated with the San Jose Motel. Coffee bar on the street with excellent muffins. Also a wine bar on the grounds of the motel. Great for people watching.

Artz Rib House (South Lamar): Great brisket and other local barbeque favorites
